Here are some ways black women are wearing mullets in the cutest and modern way.

What Is A Mullet?
A mullet is a hairstyle that’s cut short in the front and sides, with the crown to nape area staying long. It’s like having a bang in the front that extends to the sides, while the top and back of your hair go from short to long toward your back.
Or, think of it like having long hair in the back and short hair in the front while it all meets on the top to the middle of your head.
So when you hear the phrase, “Business in the front, party in the back”, they are referencing the classic mullet haircut. But nowadays, the mullet can be both parties in the front AND back. It all depends on how it’s cut, curled, and styled.
The History of Mullets
The mullets grew in popularity in the 1980s, however, it has a history way far back into ancient times when men needed a haircut that kept their hair out of their faces but also protected their necks from the hot sun.
Every decade, from the 1960s to today has a similar yet different variation of the mullet that becomes elevated each time. Although it was originally created as a necessity cut, it evolved into a style that represents rebellion.
Starting in the 80s, black women took this style and made it their own. Combining the creativity with the texture of our hair, we started wearing mullets in our own fashion and style. And just like everyone, the style always seems to represent a rebellion, an “IDC” attitude, and like always, we are here for it.
Celebrities With Mullets
Celebrities like Rihanna, Zendaya, and Teyana Taylor have all rocked the mullet hairstyle, and I must say they look goodt with it. Here are some ways they decided to wear the hairstyle.
Rihanna’s mullet here is almost like a mohawk and mullet into one. I love how she has the sides cut very low while the front, crown, and nape area goes from short to long. She opted for a short bang against her forehead that fit her face shape perfectly.
Zendaya has a more fuller front and side for her mullet, with the back as long against her back. The bang area is resting against her eyebrows and extends to her sides. Although it looks fuller compared to Rihanna’s, it is not heavy. Along with the color choice, I think this mullet is stunning on her.
Teyana Taylor looks great in every hairstyle she wears. But this mullet makes her look like a total baddie. Almost resembling Rihanna’s mullet, Teyana’s version is tapered from her front to sides. There’s something about this mullet, aviator glasses, and those arched eyebrows that is a total vibe.
But it doesn’t stop right there. Cardi B wore the cutest, modern mullets that scream elevated, era 2020. Here are 3 versions of a mullet she’s rocked.
Cardi went crazy right here for combining a finger wave style in the front to sides, with the back long to her back. Now this style is not new because my momma and aunties used to wear this in the 90s. But it’s something about Cardi doing it that’s making it look so 2020.
The style in this picture along with her outfit is giving sexy mommy all day. Because why did she have to wear this tapered mullet in a dark chocolate hue, that perfectly matches the different shades of brown in her outfit? This look is everything.
Let’s just say that the 40-inch party in the back of this mullet is slaying right now. Look at how long her hair is in this picture. Along with the blunt cut of a bang in the front and sides, this mullet is very elevated and it’s something I haven’t seen before.
Mullets Hairstyles
To give you more inspiration, here are some hairstyles I saw on social media where black women are taking this style by the horns and making it their own.
Mullet Wigs
If you are feeling the mullet but don’t want to alter your real hair, you can now incorporate wigs, sew-ins, and quick weaves to get the look without the commitment. Here are 3 wigs I found that will be worth your time.
Mullet Pixie Cut 18-Inch Wig
This 18-inch Brazillian Body Wave Mullet is stunning right out of the box. It’s made with 10A Remy human hair that can be flat ironed or curled for a different look to your liking. It also comes with 2 wig caps so you don’t have to buy one.
Sassy Yet Shorter Burgundy Red Mullet
Knowing that not everyone wants long hair down their backs, I found a sassy burgundy red mullet wig with a full bang that’s wispy and a bit dramatic. It’s a glueless unit, so you can slip it one with no problems.
The makers say it’s made with human hair but I’ll tell you to be cautious of applying a lot of heat on this unit.
Shake-N-Go Mullet Wig
This Shake-N-Go FreeTress Equal Lite Wig Straight Mullet comes in 11 color options to choose from, which has always been a plus for this brand. Though it’s not made with 100% human hair, it is heat resistant up to 400 degrees.
I love how the hair looks very natural and comes ready to put on right out of the box. But of course, customize it to your liking.
– Much love, Ash ❤️
